tail lights...

Postby CRSMP5 » Sat Mar 17, 2012 7:49 pm

well today i finally sat down with the set of used tails i got from chriskent.. my brake/parking buckets were rotted out and had big holes and such.. made them work.. and well when i saw he modded his for led tails i asked him how much...

so one of the 1st things i noticed.. it did not have chrome to hold the unit together.. some beigh plastic.. which lacked the upper and lower 4 holes.. only used 6 instead of 10 for mounting... this to me is great ad the upper/lower 2 holes corroded away on mine.. only those 6 are in use... :P

i also made up a surround to fix the said "corrosion issue" that leaks water in... i covered this in reflective white tape.. as the only rear reflector is the back up lenses...

next the set i got from chris were 4 red and 2 back up lights... no orange turns.. much like the oops truck...

now this is where things get interesting... for what ever reason, the upper and lower red lights were set up for duel filiment bulbs... did the early kubvans have 4 parking lights???

now one of the reasons i was after more red lenses and rust free buckets is i wanted to eliminate the back up light portion.. have 55w spot light under my bumper that exceeds the stock pieces.. i also wanted to install a "rear fog light" aka briight red brake light on drivers side of vehicle like a "euro" car has..

why... LOL.. i like to drive it.. and sadly ive already been cought in places where weather was so bad.. rain/fog i worried of getting arss ended..

so since the chris buckets gave me 4 like new duel buckets.. i set it up wtih 4 parking lights.. top/bottom.. and moved the turns to the middle...

i also painted the tan plastic black..

i then got the bottom 2 lights to be brake lights..

the upper drivers side is my rear fog.. :D now its a bit more euro and oppertunity to be a tad safer in crappy weather.. p.s. proper euro is 1 bright red light... sadly some cars light up both sides.. this is bad as you think they steppin on the brakes.. but ive seen usa volvo/toyota do this... :(

now what i may do... is add in 2 diodes.. to my "rear fog light".. and add yet another wire to give it 4 brake lights.. the diodes would be to prevent current back feed when brakes applied to turn on the rear fog/parking lights.. and well of corse to prevent the rear fog from turning on all the brake lights..

but i guess my big question is... did the first of the kubvans with no amber turns have 4 parking lights wired up..

Where did you get the new buckets, frames, seals, and maybe even new lenses from? Mine are in need of rework... :D

Don't know if it's any help, but awhile back I was parked next to a Ford E350 chassis ambulance, probably from the early 2000s. I noticed it had the identical tail lights to my Kub. I didn't take note of who the ambulance body was built by, but most likely the lights are still available.
