The Red Van EV project

Postby luckham » Wed Jan 07, 2015 7:00 pm

It's only taken me 20 years to get around to being serious about an electric conversion.
So why not take on another project.
A friend told me about a Craigslist ad for a unfinished VW Rabbit Cabriolet EV conversion project for sale cheap. (Cheap being the enticement).

The car had the electric motor installed, came with a spare motor, a controller, contactors and some DIY books.
Turned out the controller an old General Electric EV-1 forklift controller has at least one bad SCR, still looking for the part.

In the meantime I picked up another batch of parts from a disassembled EV project that came out of a bad car body.
I have now tested all the electric and it seems to work.

The plan is to now test the mechanics while still in the Cabriolet, then pull it and put it in the red van.
This is where we ended today with the electrics mounted.
