no power to cluster gauges?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this thing? Specifically under the dash? I have no power right now for the fan on the hvac, or the gauges. One of the many things left to fix after it sat. Also, what relays are people using for replacements? I might as well rip the old ones out and proactively clean the terminals and replace them all. 8Mo and the van has moved a whole 100ft :(

The orange wire is power.... Look at the three fuse blocks... One goes to rear, one is orange wires, other is red, hot all time...

Relays..... Hmmmmm turn, probally a load reduction one or two... Basic fog light style...

its not hard to figure out the dash wiring.... Orange is power, dark brown, almost black is ground...
I think his main page has repair book with wiring schematics/relays... But i may be wrong... But whole bunch orange wires is hot with key.... Some of the vw components use vw color coding, glow plug harness under hood for example...

OK so clarity:

Red is constant hot under the dash?
Orange is key on hot under the dash?
Brown or Black is Ground under the dash?
Blue is? ( I presume signal wire?)

I am also assuming the block of wire connections is signal wires or ground only, no hots?

I have the engine bay all redone.. that was easy with a good ol' bentley manual and some sweat equity. The under dash stuff is just a mess. Someone hacked the crap out of it. The relay schematics on the first pages I found didn't even cover which relay went where completely. I need to dig through things a bit... If I build a drawing ill scan it and add it up. Most likely though I am only going to do enough to get the rig on the road though and save the dash rewiring for later.

Pretty much, a dvm or real test light is your friend....

Schematic a joke.... Too many items share colors.... Just go thru each item 1 at a time

I added 3 new power relays.... And a relay for back up flood light to prevent melting the batck up light switch...

Two 87 terminals for that.

One powers on when you slide anything into the ignition key hole... Use for radio, parking lights, so when you remove the key, it all turns off... If need parking lights... Paperclip keeps them on...

One is rigged up for hot with key... So i can use it to run my fan i mounted on dash, cig lighter... Stuff like that...

The third was my back up light, 55w flood light... 15w melts backup light switch... So use switch to turn relay on...

I ran a 150amp charging wire n gauge inside mine... So used that feed for my dash power... Then out to the batt...

I suggest those relays and building a headlight harness too... Power from batt... Headlights will make so much more brigh er if you do.

The wiring is very straight forward. It's pretty much stock VW for things like the dashboard.
There is a terminal strip on the left sidewall in the cab that has the VW wiring on one side, and the Grumman wiring on the other. Between a wiring diagram for an 83 Rabbit and the drawings in the Kurbwatt manual available on this site, you can figure out whatever you need to.
Most of the Kurbwatt drawings apply to the diesel powered KubVan as well, I have never found a KubVan specific schematic.

Anybody have any more details I would love to expend this section.
Somebody brave enough to reverse engineer a schematic would be awesome.

When i thumbed thru the kurbwatt info my friend hords, there is no good schematic... 10 wires same color is just that... Its far more simple to look at one end for color and a ohm meter to find the other side...

But i am one of the few to molest real grumman books in person....

He even has blueprints to build the batt tray rack that supports the sliding tray in a kurbwatt to service the pack... Even though he got the rack with it... The centers that serviced them would have 1... For the fleet... So i wonder how many they made...
